Braga, Guimarães and Fafe will be hosting the School Handball World Championship from 19th to 27th March 2010.

The Portuguese Ministry of Education was assigned the organization of the competition by the International School Sport Federation (ISF), thus acknowledging not only the work on sports promotion within the national School Sport but also all the organizational qualities and capabilities needed to carry out such an important event.

The World School Handball Championship will bring together 900 athletes from 26 countries across the world. Twenty-four male teams and twenty-four female teams will make this competition the greatest sporting event around Handball in a friendly intercultural atmosphere.

The School Handball World Championship was recognized as a public interest event by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport (Regulation nº21785/2008)and is in the Commemorations Programme of the Centenary of the Portuguese Republic.
